I’m sure you’ve heard the age old adage of “glass half full vs. glass half empty”. This is used as an example of perspective. One may look at half a glass of water and see their lack. The glass is half empty. Whereas, on the other hand, one may look at half a glass of water and see their abundance. The glass is half full.
Perspective impacts motherhood tremendously.
A child that runs wild, makes a mess, laughs and yells loudly, could be seen as a headache. Or, the same child could be seen as a beautiful, healthy, blessing from God that is learning this big world one day at a time.
A kitchen full of dishes and a table cluttered after dinner could be seen as overwhelming, monotonous, and tiresome. Or, the same kitchen and table could be seen as a representative of abundance since you have been blessed with food to feed your family, the money to buy said food, the health to prepare the food on your kitchenware, and the family to enjoy what you’ve made.
A home could be seen as too small, outdated, not yours, inconveniently located. Or, the same home could be seen as a place to shield and protect your family from danger and the elements, a place that is a safe space for your child to play and your husband to relax, a place that allows you to care for many of your day to day needs. These include, feeding your family, cleaning your clothes, sleeping, bathing, rest, etc.
I could go on. Our blessings are often more abundant and apparent than we may even realize. We just have to be determined to “see” them.
I pray for eyes to see the blessings my Father has bestowed upon me. How many blessings have I become so accustomed to that what was once a burning desire of my heart has now become an annoyance or a cause for complaint?
Perspective. Gratitude. Contentment.
Not to mention, what are representing to our children? Do they see a mom that is unsatisfied with what so many pray for consistently? Or do they see a mom that is living her life praising the Lord for His goodness, even in the smallest of details?
James 1:17a “EVERY good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights,”
Every single day, we have a choice. Will I see my half a glass of water as half full? Or half empty?
My choice? To pray for a life full of glasses half full because I have learned to see my life through the eyes of a good Father.
